Kerabu Ikan bilis / Anchovies

KERABU IKAN BILIS

Kerabu ikan bilis or fried anchovie salad , is a crunchy zesty and delicious side dish . It pairs well with many dishes especially dhal curry. You can find sambar recipe in the link below:-

http://casualcook2.blogspot.com/2020/06/how-to-make-sambardhal-currylentil-curry.html

It's just the kind of dish you'd want to make when you don't have the appetite to eat anything or when you are craving for
something salty-sourish.

This kerabu is easy to make because the ingredients are readily available and the method is not complicated. This dish can be whipped up in no time at all!

To make this kerabu, you only need 4 ingredients. Ikan bilis/anchovies, green chillies, onion and lime juice.

: Ikan bilis / anchovies - Pick through the
ikan bilis to seperate the fish from the
residue. It is important to wash them
before frying. Fry ikan bilis at the correct
oil temperature and for the correct length
of time so that they are crispy  and
not burnt. The oil will bubble and foam
whilst the ikan bilis is frying. Stir
  continuasly to prevent from burning.
If ikan bilis is ready, quickly remove them
Drain them on a paper towel. Pound
coarsely. You have to take into
consideration that the amount of fried
ikan bilis will be a lot lesser after pounding

I'm adding green chillies for the spiciness.      You can replace it by adding bird's eye
chilies for an extra 'kick' .

: I prefer using lime juice for tanginess
instead of lemon juice. I feel lime juice
has more of a floral/herbal aroma and has
more depth of flavour but there are no
  hard rules here.

: Use raw onions to add a kick of flavour
   to your kerabu.

Let's get pounding!

INGREDIENTS

- 100g ikan bilis ( clean and washed)

- 1 medium size onions

- 1 Green chili

- Juice of 1/2 lime

METHOD

- Heat oil in a pan. Fry ikan bilis until
crispy and golden brown. Remove and
set aside for 5 minutes to cool.

- Dice onion and green chilli. Set aside

- Pound the fried ikan bilis coarsely . Set
  a side

- Add in the diced onion and green chilli
   into the pounded ikan bilis

- Squeeze in the lime juice, toss together
until well combined. Taste and adjust
  accordingly.

- Serve and enjoy!
