naan bread

HOME  MADE NAAN BREAD

Naan is an amazing traditional flat bread from India. It's so soft , pillowy and full of lovely brown blisters.

Traditionally,  they are cooked in a very hot tandoor oven. My naan recipe is made on a stove top using a cast iron skillet. And trust me it's just as good. Here's how I make it.

INGREDIENTS:

•2 tsp dry instant yeast

•1/2 cup warm water

•1 tsp sugar

•2 1/2 cup all purpose flour

•1/2 tsp salt

•1/4 cup vegetable oil

•1/3 cup plain yogurt

•1 egg (beaten)

*extra flour or a little water in case you     need it
*different types of flour at room temperature require different amount of liquid. Always adjust accordingly.

METHOD:

1. Mix yeast, warm water and sugar. Leave to become frothy.

2. In a bowl, sieve in flour, salt ,yogurt, oil and eggs. Mix till combined.

3. Pour in yeast and mix together

4. Transfer the dough to a work surface. Continue kneading for another 20 minutes or until the dough becomes smooth and soft.

5. Form the dough to a big ball. Leave to rest in a slightly greased bowl for an hour or until doubled in size. Cover with cling wrap.

6. Punch down the dough.
(This helps to release air bubbles)

7. Divide the dough into small balls and referigate for later use.

8. Allow the dough to warm up a little before cooking.

9. On a lightly dusted counter, flatten the balls into 6-7 inch discs.

10. Place the dough on a hot skillet over medium heat.
(cook until large bubbles have formed on the surface)

11. Flip over and cook the other side.

12. Once done transfer in A kitchen towel to keep them warm. Best eaten with curry
