Bread

Easy HomeMade Bread

Bread is a staple food in so many households especially mine. We are always eating bread no matter the time of day. When we were in London last winter, one of our favourite things to do was grocery shopping. Everything there was just so reasonably priced and fresh especially the bread. We marvelled at the bread they had on display.  Needless to say we bought many loaves during our stay. However, back home it was hard to find bread like we had over there.

It was then that I decided to make my own bread but I had no idea where to start. So many recipes online had too many methods to follow. I just wanted a simple and easy recipe to do in my spare time .

Finally I found the perfect recipe. It was so satisfying to see the results . This loaf had a lovely soft texture and a delicately sweet flavour. Perfect for toast or a sandwich. This is how I made it.

INGREDIENTS

•250g  bread flour (high protein flour)

•2 tbsp sugar

•1 tbsp milk powder

•1 tsp instant dry yeast

•1/2 cup of water + 1 tbsp +1 egg

•2 tbsp butter

•1/2 tsp salt

*extra flour and a little water in case you need it

METHOD

1. Place flour, sugar and milk powder into a large bowl. Combine the mixture

2. Add yeast and continue mixing until combined

3. Add the egg mixture and knead until it becomes a dough

4. Add butter and transfer the dough onto the counter

5. Knead for 25 minutes until dough becomes smooth and silky to touch
(You can also use a dough mixer which will only take 10-15 minutes)

6. Form the dough in a big ball and leave it to rest in a lightly greased bowl covered in plastic for about 1 hour or so depending on your room temperature or until the dough doubles up in size

7. Once the dough has doubled

8. Punch down the dough
(It helps to release air bubbles)

9. Flatten. the dough on the counter(lightly dusted with flour) using a rolling pin into a rectangle. Then roll the rectangle into a log.

10. Flatten  the roll out again into a rectangle. Roll it again into a log.

11. Put the rolled dough seam side down in a greased loaf pan and let it to proof for about 1 hour.

12. Preheat the oven to 170C° and bake for 25 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped underneath.

13. Brush melted bread onto the surface once the bread is out of the oven.

14. remove from the pan and let it cool before slicing.
